L'avant-dernier week-end de Septembre, curieusement, réserve toujours une météo superbe, en plein boom des couleurs automnales. C'était déjà le cas il y a un an pour Východná Vysoká et Široká veža. Cette année, au jour près, et cette fois-ci, accompagné de mon désormais infaillible coéquipier Romain, nous ré-éditons l'expérience, afin d'effectuer une traversée sur 2 jours d'une portion des Hautes Tatras, qui me tenait à coeur depuis un certain temps. A la différence près que cette fois-ci, et contrairement à l'an passé, la neige s'invite aussi à la fête... Peu commun pour une météo de début d'automne. La première partie, une "mise en bouche", consiste à gravir Jahňací Štít, un belvédaire de renom, que j'ai toujours regretté de n'avoir pas gravi lors du trek estival de 2004.

The penultimate weekend of September, curiously always reserve superb weather, booming autumnal colors. It was already the case a year ago to Východná Vysoká and Široká veža. This year, almost the same day of the year, together with my now indefectible teammate Romain, we re-attempt the experience to undertake a 2-day crossing of a portion of the High Tatras, which I kept in my "idea-bag" for some time. One notable difference is that this time, unlike last year, the snow also comes to the party ... Uncommon for a weather of early autumn. The first part, a "starter", is to climb Jahňací Štít, a well-known viewpoint which I have always regretted not to climb during the 2004 summer trek .

Ždiar, comme à l'accoutumée, est le point de départ... habitude qui commence à devenir routinière... Nous passons ici devant la pension Liptak, à l'écart du village, située dans splendide clairière au pied des sentiers.
Ždiar, as always, is the starting point... habit which starts to be more and more a routine... Here we pass in front of the Liptak pension, located apart from village, in a splendid clearing on teh foot of the trails.

La dernière fois que j'avais emprunté le sentier de la Dolina Monkova, c'était lors d'une boucle avec mes parents. Il régnait, en plein mois d'Août, un épais brouillard hivernal, et nous n'avions rien pu savourer de la vue. Cette fois ci, les conditions s'y prêtent de manière très favorable.
The last time I took this trail in the Dolina Monkova, it was during a loop with my parents. Then, right in the middle of August, there was a thick winter-like fog, and we couldn't enjoy anything from the view. This time, conditions are ideal.
Les couleurs de la forêt à la montée sont tout bonnement éblouissantes.
The colours of the forest during the way up are just amazing.
Le ciel est étincelant de clarté. Nous distinguons en bas la crête ondulante constituée par Spišská Magurka et Spišská Bukovina. Plus loin, sombre à l'horizon, le massif de Gorce. A l'oeil nu, tout à droite, nous distinguions même les Trzy Korony des gorges de la Dunajec.
The sky is sparkling of brightness, we can recognize below the smooth crest constituted by Spišská Magurka and Spišská Bukovina. Further on, dark in the horizon, the range of Gorce. We could also recognize by the eye the Trzy Korony and the Dunajec gorges.
Nous arrivons aux abords du col Široké Sedlo, où nous rencontrons les premières plaques de neige, et les premiers autres randonneurs.
We arrive to the surroundings of the pass Široké Sedlo, where we meet the first slices of snow, and the first other hikers.

D'ailleurs, nous ne croisons pas que des randonneurs...
By the way, we don't meet only hikers...
Le gros de la surprise nous attend encore... ils sont exactement 56 à se dorer au soleil, ici exactement ! Jamais de ma vie, sauf peut être lors de la Punta Suelsa des Pyrénées, je n'avais croisé autant d'isards... euh, pardon, chamois. Si l'on s'en tient aux statistiques du TANAP (alarmantes, car il est en danger), nous avons devant nous 1/10 de toute la population de chamois des Tatras.
The bulk of the surprise lies ahead ... They are just 56 basking in the sun, exactly here ! Never in my life, except possibly when I was in Pyrenee's Punta Suelsa, I had met so many chamois. According to the statistics of the TANAP (alarming because in danger), we are facing 1/10 of the entire population of the Tatras chamois.

Quelques portraits de ces superbes animaux. Le Chamois des Tatras, tout comme l'Isard Pyrénéen, est une espèce endémique, qui se distingue du Chamois des Alpes par un certain nombre de caractéristiques, dont son poil plus long et sombre, sa morphologie plus trapue.
Some close-ups of these superb animals. The Chamois of the Tatras, just like the Isard in the Pyrenees, is an endemic specy, which distinguishes to the Alp's Chamois by a certain nomber of characteristcs, including longer and darker hair, and a slightly more massive morphology.

Au col Široké Sedlo, éblouissement devant un superbe panorama des Hautes Tatras, plus hérissées et saillantes que jamais. Peut être est-ce dû à la neige, qui les recouvre comme du sucre-glace. A ce moment précis, nous nous interrongeons encore sur le bien-fondé de notre expédition dans cette portion des Tatras, et en de telles conditions... Emmener les crampons n'était pas du fantasme ! Nous verrons bien...
At the col Široké Sedlo, we are glaring in front of a superb panorama of the High Tatras, sharper and more jagged than ever. Perhaps because of the snow, which covers them like sugar powder. In this very moment, we are wondering about the well-founded of our expédition in this portion of the Tatras, in such conditions... Taking the crampons along was not a fantasm ! We'll see...

Nous nous dirigeons vers Zéléné pleso, situé dans un antre secret des Hautes Tatras.
We are heading to Zéléné pleso, nested into a secret den of the High Tatras.

Après le casse-croute, nous laissons le plus gros des sacs dans une salle du refuge prévue à cet effet, et partons gravir en aller-retour Jahňací Štít, que nous voyons ici tout au bout de ce vaste cirque glaciaire, où passe le sentier.
After the break, we leave the biggest rucksack in a room of the hut made for this purpose, and we go to climb up and down the peak Jahňací Štít, which we see here in the end of this vast glaciar cirque, where the trail goes.

Once we reached the pass on the ridge, view to the valley Javorova Dolina.

Romain, sur l'une des portions finales de l'arête. L'un des dernier passages, glacé sur une vintaine de mètres, nous fera préférer les crampons, judicieusement emmenés.
Romain, on one of the final parts of the ridge. One of the last passages, frozen on about 20 meters, will make us prefer the crampons, wisely taken along.

Et versant Nord, un panorama de choix sur les Tatras Blanches, vues sur toutes leur longueur. Ce panorama est bien la spécificité, et la raison pour laquelle Jahňací Štít se gravit.
And on the Northern side, a first class panorama to the White Tatras, viewed on all their length. This panorama is actually the specificity, and the reason why Jahňací Štít must be climbed.

Lors de la descente, nous retrouvons le refuge Chata pri Zelenom Plese déjà à moitié plongé dans l'obscurité.
During the way down, we find back the hut Chata pri Zelenom Plese already half plunged into the darkness.

La non-surfréquentation en cette période de l'année nous permet de visiter ce site en nous écartant un peu des sentiers, en toute impunité... petite reconnaissance en vue du lendemain...
Since this non-overcrowded period of the year allows to visit this site while going a bit apart from the trails, in whole impunity... little "reconnaissance" before the next day...
