Les Pieniny étaient un peu le clou du séjour, avec le massif des Trois Couronnes et les gorges de la Dunajec, les « Gorges du Tarn Polonaises ». Le premier de ces deux jours, présenté ici, nous fîmes le circuit en crête, passant par toutes les corniches : Sokolica, 3 Couronnes, etc.. passant tantôt à travers la forêt, tantôt sur l’arête de ces dents de calcaire qui surplombent vertigineusement le lit de la Dunajec, 300m plus bas, avec de nombreux dos d’ânes. Leur extrémité la plus pointue se termine parfois par quelque pin fantaisiste qui pousse au dessus du vide ! Nous descendîmes de l’autre côté du massif, à Sromowce Niżne, là où la façade des Trois Couronnes apparaît dans toute sa splendeur, et où la Dunajec pénètre dans le massif.

Pieniny were the highlight of the stay, with the range of the Three Crowns and the gorges of the Dunajec, the "Polish Grand Canyon". The first of these two days, presented here, was made of a circuit on the crest, going from one jag to the other: Sokolica, 3 Crowns, etc. Always going in and out the thick forest, to the edge of these limestone teeth which overhang vertiginously the bed of the Dunajec, 300m below, with many ups and downs. Their most pointed jag ends sometimes with some funny pine trees, growing over the verticality ! We went down on other side of the range, in Sromowce Niżne, where the face of the Three Crowns appears in all its splendour, and where Dunajec enter through the range.

The Dunajec, embryon of the fresh born Wisla river, goes out of Tatras, cross the hillfoot collecting on the way all streams, before it takes the direction of the limestone range of the Pieniny...

A Szczawnica, l'entrée des Gorges (ou plutôt la sortie, si l'on suit le sens de l'eau), au soir et au matin.
In Szczawnica, the entrance of the Gorges (or rather the way out, if we follow the stream), in evening and morning.

En nous dirigeant vers le début du sentier qui monte vers Sokolica ("rocher des aigles"), nous devons franchir le cours d'eau, grâce à ce passeur.
Heading to the start of the path climbing Sokolica ("rocher des aigles"), we must cross the river, which this shuttle allows.

Au sommet de Sokolica, pinnacle vertigineuse qui surplombe le lit de la rivière. Le pin le plus célèbre de Pologne y pousse !
On the top of Sokolica, vertiginous pinnacle that overlooks the bed of the river. The most famous pine in Poland is growing there !

Un peu plus loin, sur la corniche suivante. Au loin à droite, et à peine visibles car vues de dos et sous les arbres, les Trois Couronnes.
A little bit further, on the next jag. Further on the right, and barely visible because seen from backside and under the trees, the Three Crowns.

La Dunajec a creusé ce massif calcaire de manière fantaisiste, avec de nombreux virages en épingle...
The Dunajec dug this limestone range in a very fantaisist way, with a lot of sharp turns...

Aux environs de Zamkowa Góra, et le très populaire chemin gravissant les Trois Couronnes (accès au sommet payant !).
In the surroundings of Zamkowa Góra, and the overcrowded path climbing the Three Crowns (acces to the summit not free !).


Alors à défaut de vue du sommet, vues sur la région alentours, ici la Spišská Magurka.
So instead of a summit view, views to the surrounding region, here the Spišská Magurka.

Nous redescendons à travers le "Wawóz Szopczanski", magnifique vallée encaissée, au pied des falaises des Trois Couronnes.
We walk down through the "Wawóz Szopczanski", wonderful deep steepsided valley, on the foot of the Three Crowns cliffs.

Arrivée à Sromowce Niżne, et cabane de bergers fabriquant de l'Oscypek, le fromage de brebi fumé local.
