Turbacz
1310m ; 27/05/05

Turbacz , 1310m , is not exactly a summit, but the highest point of a vast wild undulating region (lynx, eagles, deers, etc), woody until its top but with an important pastoral activity. Instead of an important climb, this will be the longest hike in distance. The sight which symbolizes more this area, in addition to the Tatras standing far South the same way Pyrenees do, is certainly that of the "old fashioned" bundles of hay . Already charged with hay to dry in the plains, they are still waiting as skeletons higher in the pastures, made of pruned heads of fir trees planted upside-down. Join together these two visions, and you will have a perfect bucolic image of the "Lower Poland". Add to that one night in the splendid Maciejowa refuge.

On the way. The massif or Gorce is not very steep, and is made of thick forests spreaded with pastures. The place is perfect for mountain biking.

The Stary Wierch mountain refuge, a bit further. Without beeing ugly, it is not as nice as where we slept.

Nearby, a field with a charming little hut.

Zoom to some valley in the High Tatras, which I believe to be the Dolina Gąsienicowa; small abandonned pasture hut.

Grass is more and more frequent, and the summit (or rather the "highest point") is not far.
Near the end, a load of arrached trees (the storm in 2004 ?) make the access to the top trickier. There is no panoramic viewpoint since we remain in the forest, but the hike is well worth it.
