The weather of the second day is gloomy: cloudy sky, violent wind. The stage of the day consists in a ridge-walk, along the highest tops of Veľká Fatra. The solitude is complete. We are crossing this area with a feeling of scenerical astonishment, but also mixed with a certain sort of fear. The Veľká Fatra do not look like any other « middle-sized » mountains of the Slovak-Polish Carpathians, no other place produce such a feeling of loneliness and « désertic »... The aim of today is to reach the second mountain-hut, « Horský Hotel Králova Strudňa ».

The morning after, I repeat my experience on Borišov, to take photos of the sunrise. Far ahead, we can see Babia Góra and the Western Tatras.

The sky is still ok but some wierd lenticular clouds are forming, here over Ľubochnianska Dolina.

Returning to the mountain-hut Chata pod Borišovom for the breakfast...

The mountain-hut, and a bit later, the start, under a cloudy sky.
We first walk behind the Western flank of Ploská, through a path whose level is constant, circumventing the summit to catch back the ridge later.

The snow is hard, we walk over some uncomfortable icy sections.

We catch back the main ridge, and some grassy landscapes as far as eye can see, like the day before.
Here and there are lying some curious karstic outcrops, modulating the landscapes with random reliefs. These are outcrops of cracked and eroded lapiaz.
After having passed Suchy Vrch, we climb Ostredok. Far ahead, Chleb, and Rozsutec, in the Malá Fatra.
On the summit of Ostredok, highest top in the Veľká Fatra. These wide grassy pastures remind me from time to time areas in the French Massif Central like the Cantal. In the far end, Krížna, topped by a radio-antenna.

Me, still as heavily loaded, like if I was lost in these immensities. On the right, the sky starts to clear a bit and allow a superb view to the Tatras.
From Krížna, on which we will walk again tommorow, looking to the West side of the Veľká Fatra.
From Krížna, looking to the East side of the Veľká Fatra.
We pass near a prominent outcrop of limestone rocks named "Králova Strudňa", the "King's Crown".

Nous arrivons au refuge Horský Hotel Králova Strudňa.
We arrive to the moutain-hut Horský Hotel Králova Strudňa.

This one is as dirty and dodgy as much the one of today's morning, Chata pod Borišovom, was fine. See you after this gloomy night for the end of this trek !
