Kintail, Torridon, Isle of Skye
(Le Grand Nord Ecossais - The wild North of Scotland)

This zone gathers three distinct places of the big northern Scotland, which despite being located not too far from each other, have morphologies well on their own. The Kintail offers some of the highest and steepest mountains of the Northern Highlands, out of the Grampians, from which one of the most fascinating example are the "Five Sisters of Kintail".
This is the last stop before the bridge heading to the Isle of Skye, the most famous of the Scottish islands, for its whysky, but also for its outstanding and uncommon mountains, of volcanic origin, whose sharpness and complexity reminds more the Pyrenees or the Tatras, than the rest of the British mountains.
Finally, back on the mainland, and still further North, is located the Torridon, which includes some extremely wild ranges, the most charismatic (Liatach, An Teallach) being made of curious piles of stratified slices of sedimentary stones, the sharpest and steepest out of the Isle of Skye.
See the description of Torridon and Skye on the SUMC page.
