L'un de mes plus fervents objectifs était de visiter enfin cette île de Skye, dont j'avais entendu chanter les louanges tout le long de mon année Erasmus, mais sans trouver le temps moi même d'y aller, trop pris alors mon exploration du Mainland. Pour tout montagnard digne de ce nom, Skye rime avec Cuillins. Sgurr nan Gillean faisait l'objet de tout un tas de compliments dans divers ouvrages, outre "the Munros", et étant sans véritable escalade une montagne pas trop facile (on appelle ça "scrambling", je n'ai jamais trouvé de synonyme exact en Français), j'avais depuis un certain temps focalisé mon attention sur celle ci comme challenge.

One of my most enthousiastic aims was to visit finally this Isle of Skye, which I had always been listening to its compliments all my erasmus year long, but without finding time to go there, too busy with my Mainland exploration. For all mountaineer worth this name, Skye means Cuillins. Sgurr nan Gillean was the object of a load of fine descriptions in a lot of various books, including "the Munros", and without any real rockclimbing, neither a too easy mountain, I had focused my attention to this one as a challenge for me.

Behind Marsco, Bla Bhein, a Munro which despite its excentred position in the middle of these ones, belongs to the Black Cuillins, because not made of granite but gabbro, volcanic rock whose the whole main chain of the high Cuillins is made.

Le massif de Sgurr nan Gillean (ici le soir puis le matin), qui, depuis Sligachan cache en fait tout le reste de la chaine. Le pic du même nom est en fait le plus haut à gauche, tandis qu'Am Basteir, autre Munro, constitue le centre, et qu'à droite l'arête de Sgurr a' Bhasteir cache en fait Bruach na Frithe.

The Peak of the same name is in fact the highest on the left, while Am Basteir, other Munro, lies in the middle, and on the right the Sgurr a' Bhasteir arête hides Bruach na Frithe.

Nous voilà directement au col, au pied de l'arête finale, endroit réputé pour avoir fait rebrousser chemin à nombre de visiteurs peu avertis... (salut Nicky :-) La vue sur les Cuillins rouges devient de plus en plus belle.
Now we are directly at the col, on the foot of the final ridge, place well known to have made a large number of awareless visitors turn on their way back... The view to the Red Cuillins is getting nicer and nicer.

Nous remarquons la Pinnacle Innaccessible, rocher très similaire à ce qu'indique son nom, perché sur une cîme. Nécéssitant une escalade difficile et très vertigineuse, c'est de loin le plus difficile des Munros.

Vestiges d'un ancien volcan, les Cuillins sont fait de ce fameux gabbro, roche volcanique introuvable dans tout le reste du monde. Sa particularité la plus connue est son extraordinaire adhérence, car très poreuse, et incrustée de cristaux, qui en font la roche favorite des grimpeurs. Malheureusement tout ceci est au détriment de la longévité de vos semelles, ainsi que vos vêtements qui risquent de ressembler à des passoires si vous n'y prenez pas garde. Remains of a big volcano, the Cuillins are made of this famous gabbro, volcanic rock unfindable anywhere else in the world. Its most well known feature is its extraordinary grip, because very porous and inlaid with crystals, which make it the favourite stone of climbers. Unfortunately all of this is at the detriment of your shoes sole longevity, as well as your clothes that risk to look like sieves if you don't take care. Moi, une fois au sommet, riant à gorge déployée de ce spectacle, acquis au fruit de tant de peines et de frayeurs.
Me, once on the summit, laughing loudly about this spectacle, well deserved after so much pain and scare.

L'ascention de Sgurr nan Gillean s'étant faite tôt dans la matinée, il me restait toute la fin de l'après midi, ce qui est loin de représenter peu vu la longueur des jours l'été à cette latitude. Je décidai de redescendre en poursuivant ma découverte de Skye à travers le Glen Sligachan.
As the ascent of Sgurr nan Gillean was done early in the morning, all the end of the afternoon was left, which is far to be short, because of the day's length in the summer at such a latitude. I decided then to climb down while keeping my discovering of Skye through the Glen Sligachan.

Bla Bheinn, overlooking the Loch an Athain. 		Une fois en haut de la butte de Sgurr Hain, nous découvrons d'en bas une superbe vue du cirque de la chaine des Cuillins, avec ci devant le Loch a'Choire Riabhaich.
Once on top of the Sgurr Hain hill, we discover from downside a superb view of the cirque formed by the Cuillins chain, with the Loch a'Choire Riabhaich in foreground.
La fin de cette randonnée eut pour but le Loch Coruisk et sa superbe baie du Loch Scavaig, endoit ayant attiré mon attention sur la carte, de manière justifiée car sans que je le sache vraiment, réputé pour être un des lieux sauvages les plus splendides d'Ecosse. The end of this walk had for aim the Loch Coruisk and its superb bay of Loch Scavaig, place that focused my attention on the map, on a justified way, as without I knew it, was well known to be one of Scotland's most splendid wild places.
