Giewont

Zakopane visitée, en rentrant à l'auberge, je fis connaissance avec une partie de mes colocataires : trois étudiants forts sympathiques, qui venaient de terminer un pèlerinage commencé à Varsovie 18 jours auparavant ! Ils comptaient parachever leur entreprise en gravissant Giewont le lendemain, petit sommet flanqué d'une croix et surplombant Zakopane. Expliquant mon projet et son report d'un jour pour raisons météorologiques, ils m'invitèrent à me joindre à eux, ce que j'acceptai volontiers. La légende dit que Giewont, le "géant en sommeil" (au sens littéral), est un chevalier Polonais qui se réveillera pour défendre sa patrie lorsqu'elle sera en péril.

Once Zakopane visited, as I came back to the Youth Hostel, I got acquainted with some of my flatmates: three very friendly students, who just acheived a pilgrimage started in Warszaw 18 days ago ! They were expecting to conclude their enterprise by climbing Giewont the next day, small summit topped by a cross and overlooking Zakopane. Explaining my project and its delay for meteorologic reasons, they invited me to join in, which of course I accepted. The legend tells that Giewont, the "sleeping giant" (litterally), is a Polish knight asleep who will wake up to defend its country when it will be in danger.

"Géant" vu de Zakopane, la veille. En effet, il dort sur le dos, nullement soucieux de son fort embompoint. Quelques calèches proposent aux plus fortunés de rallier Kuznice, véritable départ du sentier, sans se taper les 5 km de bitume.
"Giant" seen from Zakopane the day before. He is sleeping on his back, not worrying at all about his big belly. Few horse cars offer to the most fortunate to get to Kuznice, real start of the hike, without walking the 5 km of maccadam.

Une chapelle, comme tout le reste toute en bois, sur le bord du chemin à proximité de l'entrée du TNP, le parc National. C'est parait-il un lieu qu'affectionne Jean Paul II. Un peu plus haut, le Schronisko Na Hali Kondratowej, autrement dit le refuge de la vallée Kondratowa, très prisé à l'heure du déjeuner.

A little further, the Schronisko Na Hali Kondratowej, in other words, the hut of the Kondratowa valley, very crowded at the time of lunch.

Quelques cabanes de bergers, quittant la forêt pour les pâturages. En face de nous, le Kasprow Wierch, sommet célèbre pour le téléphérique qui mène à son sommet.

Une fois au col Kondracka Przełęcz, qui précède le sommet, vue sur la plaine. Enfin au pied de la croix, mes coéquipier(e)s exultent. C'est le bout de leur aventure, la cerise sur le gateau.

Si ces photos vous ont un peu laissé sur votre faim, je suis passé par le même col en 2005, en venant de la Dolina Malej Laki, pour parcourir Czerwony Wierch en une grande boucle magnifique...
If these photos disapointed you a bit, I was in the same place in 2005, coming from the Dolina Malej Laki, to hike Czerwony Wierch in a wide and wonderful loop...
