Maramureş

Tapant tour à tour des noms de lieux dans Google, ce dernier ne tarda pas à me débarquer dans le pays des Maramureş. Ce nom, qui sonnait bien, ne tarda pas à devenir la destination emblématique de nos vacances d'été. Cette région de Roumanie du Nord, coincée entre la Hongrie, l'Ukraine, et l'arc des Carpates, est un véritable musée à ciel ouvert de la vie montagnarde et campagnarde d'antan, comme chez nous, et plus particulièrement dans les autres régions des Carpates (Pologne y compris, où un tel mode de vie n'existe plus qu'à l'état de folklore). Au delà de son intérêt touristique, ce séjour dans cette région m'a personellement bouleversé, comme si j'effectuais un pèlerinage chez mes ancêtres...


Typing one after one some places names in Google, this one didn't take long to land me in the country of Maramureş. This name, which sounds so nice, quickly became the emblematic destination of our summer holidays. This region of Northern Romania, stuck between Hungary, Ukraine, and the Carpathian Range, is a real open air museum of the mountain and countryside life of the past time, just like in our countries, and more precisely like other places in the Carpathians (Poland for example, where such a way of life doesn't exist anymore but as a folklore). Below the touristic interest, this stay in this region personally stirred me up, just like if I made a pilgrimage in the country of my ancesters...

Chaque matin où l’on se réveille en vie, et que l’on rentre le soir chez soi en bonne santé et avec la satisfaction d’avoir accompli son travail, pour boire, manger, se chauffer, est une victoire. L’arc de triomphe, c’est ça" (Gabriel Chindris, habitant d'Ieud).
"The gate, is an "arc de triomphe". Every day of the existence is a challenge. Every morning, when we wake up alive, and when we come back home in the evening in good health, with the satisfaction to have carried out the work, to drink, to eat, to heat the house, is a vitory. The gate, that's it." (Gabriel Chindris, inhabitant of Ieud).

Le pays des Maramureş est sans aucun doûte le deuxième haut-lieu du savoir faire menuisier dans les Carpates, avec Zakopane.
The country of Maramureş is undoubtly the second high place of the joinery handcraft work in the Carpathians, with Zakopane.

Je sais, ce n'est pas très bien, mais voici quelques photos d'habitants et de la vie de tous les jours.
I know, it's not very fair, but here are few photos of the inhabitants and everyday's life.

Le sac à dos Décathlon et la nana ne sont pas Roumains, mais pour le reste, c'est 100% vrai. Pas du folklore !

Rues dans Botiza. L'aspect un peu délabré est accentué par les ravages d'une crue récente qui a endommagé un peu les rives.
Streets in Botiza. The appearance a bit dilapidated of the shores is due partly to the damages caused by a recent rise of the water stram which devasted the shores.

Les habitants, de majorité Gréco-Catholique, sont très croyants.
The inhabitants, in majority Greek-Catholic, are very believing.

Le Musée d'Ieud, où sont exposées toutes les étapes de la fabrication du tissus à partir du chanvre. Cette plante vous dit quelque chose ?

La maison de Gabriel, chambre d'hôtes, la toute dernière avant la grande église en bois, que je recommande absolument pour sa convivialité.

Portiques en bois savamment décorés. Les Roumains ne manquent pas d'imagination.

Le "Cimetière Joyeux" de Sapânta, malheureusement trop médiatisé et fréquenté.

Sur chaque tombe, richement ornée, est peint un petit dessin humoristique du défunt, dans une scène illustrant soit sa vie, soit la manière dont il a quitté ce monde...
On each tomb, richly decorated, a small cartoon is painted of the person, in a scene illustrating either its life, or the way in which it left this world...

Quant à nous, nous pouvons continuer la visite de ce magnifique pays en quittant un peu davantage les sentier battus... par ici.
As for us, we can continue the visit of this splendid country by leaving a bit more the beaten tracks... come here.
